matched teaser

Just a little teaser…all of the items in this picture have something to do with the plot of Matched. :)

ARCs are circulating now (and there will be more after BEA later this month), so there are some reviews and spoilers going up, and people have asked me if I’m nervous about that. The answer is, “Of course.” As an author, I tend to be very protective of the plot. I want people to know the story as it unfolds, not beforehand, if that makes sense. However, as a reader, you also want to know what you’re getting into when you pick up a book! So it’s a very fine line.

But I can’t control the reviews, or the spoilers, or really any of it, so I have to (try) to let go.

It is SO hard to let go of a book. I sent off the last pass through the galleys last week and my husband almost had to pry those pages out of my deathgrip. But at some point, I have to say, “This is the very best I could do, it is not perfect, it will never be perfect, but it’s time to let go. It’s time for this book to belong not just to me, but to the readers. And time for me to move on to something else.”

Like writing the sequel. Eeep.

  • Sandy Shin says:

Oh, that’s such a pretty picture! Now I am intrigued. (More intrigued than I already was.)

I completely understand the desire to protect the plot — I feel the same way. :)

    I cannot wait!!

  • Eek! Sometimes I think I’m ready to let go, but reading that made me realize I’m not! That’s scary, getting to the phase when you literally can’t tweak it anymore. Wow. Congrats, and good luck on the sequel!

I can’t wait for it to come out, Ally! A book doesn’t have to be perfect for readers to love it and for it to feel perfect, if that makes sense :)

  • Vicki says:

Ally I’m so excited for you I can hardly stand it. I’m really looking forward to reading the book. I keep meaning to tell you how stunned I am with the cover too. It is breathtaking. I hope you are so happy and proud of yourself too. You are amazing.

  • Ooh, what a fun picture! Did you already have all those items, or did you have to go find them?

That stage of not being able to edit/revise/or tweak it anymore would be nerve-wracking, but also liberating in a way. Like you said, it’s the best you can do and I can’t wait to read the final product. It’s going to be amazing I’m sure, because it already was! Can’t wait!!

Wow, I didn’t realize MATCHED was coming out so soon! Didn’t you just sell the project at the end of last year?

Congratulations! This may be another one – in addition to Kiersten White’s PARANORMALCY – that I just have to buy straight out of the gate. As much as I love the library, I’m pretty sure I’m going to want to own this one:)

I can’t wait for your book to come out Ally! so cool. =)

I’m running around saying “Eep” now. I sound very cute, in a nervous way. Love the picture. And I’d love to get my hands on one of those big-bad ARCs! (No spoilers, though…)

  • Shari says:

I love the picture! I LOVE your story and can’t wait for it to come out.

  • What an interesting teaser! Makes me even more thrilled for the book. For the life of me, I don’t think I could figure anything out from that photo though :)

  • Meaghan says:

I love that picture! I can’t wait to read the book now!

  • Okay, so I don’t know what ARC or BEA means. This is why I miss your other blog. I guess I need to follow more authors. But I like the photo and I’m getting excited to read the book!

I’ve been meaning to tell you how much I love the cover. (Or maybe I already did?) I like the font a lot.

And I can’t imagine letting go of a book or anything else I’d put so much of myself into. I’m much too insecure.

  • Congrats for “releasing” the book to press :)
    I know the scary feeling.

  • Kate says:

Great teaser- makes me want the release date to be here already!!! And what I wouldn’t give to get my hands on one of those ARC’s :)

  • Ali says:

Hi! Cool teaser. makes me very curious. I’m glad you finally sent off your final manuscript. I’m sure it’s excellent. Can’t wait to read it when it comes out. How different is it from your original manuscript? I hear Julie Strauss Gabel is an awesome editor and has her authors do a lot of revising. Good luck with all the reviews and stuff. I bet they’ll be raving!

  • Kalina Converse says:

Very cool! Can’t wait to read more. I wish you could give us hints about the photo…. :)

Thanks for your comments, everyone! I’m glad you liked the picture. And thank you also for the well-wishes on the sequel. I certainly need them.

D.W., I love that quote. I’m going to have to put it next to my computer.
