This Saturday, December 17th, at the wonderful Orem Public Library, I will be signing with a bunch of amazing authors (including Brandon Mull, Jessica Day George, Bree Despain, Nathan Hale, Kristen Chandler, Rick Walton, Robison Wells, Dan Wells, Tyler Whitesides, Jed Henry, and E.J. Patten) from 12:00 -2:00 p.m. That is a LOT of authors and, if you are in the Orem area, you could (and should!) come and get all of your holiday shopping finished right then and there. Because who wouldn’t love a signed book?
This is the last signing I have on the schedule for 2011, and I also don’t have any planned yet in the new year, so please come! I would love to sign your books.
Also, speaking of books…
…if you are related to me, you PROBABLY SHOULDN’T READ THE REST OF THIS POST BECAUSE I AM GOING TO TALK ABOUT YOUR CHRISTMAS PRESENTS.
I give a lot of books at Christmastime. It can’t be helped. And the really wonderful thing about living where I do is that we have lots and lots of authors coming through and our local indie, The King’s English, does so many amazing signings. So, without further adieu, I present the list of Books I’m Giving This Christmas.
The brothers-in-law this year are receiving VARIANT by Robison Wells.

My nephew is getting JANITORS by Tyler Whitesides.

My nieces are going to get books by Jessica Day George. The oldest niece gets Jessica’s first book, the newest niece gets Jessica’s latest book. See how I did that?

In my little family, we have a tradition of opening a book and pajamas on Christmas Eve. This has been going on since my oldest boy was born. This year, he’s getting a lot of books, including REDWALL by Brian Jacques.

My middle guy loves books by Kevin Sherry, and I just discovered this one, and the cover alone is worth the price (it makes me laugh every time I look at it–ACORNS EVERYWHERE!).

And my youngest loves the second OTIS story (OTIS AND THE TORNADO), so we’re getting him the first one too.

(I still have to buy the books for my husband and myself.)
That’s it, for now. What books are you giving (and hoping to receive) this year?

I wish I could be there this Saturday! But it’s my son’s birthday party, so I guess I shouldn’t skip town . . .
Books I’m giving: I’m giving my dad one of Orson Scott Card’s new books (the Lost Gate); my sister wants C. J. Hill’s (aka Janette Rallison) Slayers; and my son and nephews are getting Ninjago books. (I know, not terribly literary, but it’s what they want!)
Of course, my wish list is mostly books, so we’ll see what I get later!
Rosalyn, my boys are totally fixated on Ninjago. I should get them the books!!
And you gave me an idea…maybe I should do a post asking what books everyone RECEIVED for Christmas. I have a lot on my wish list too!
Hope you have a great holiday!
I’m giving The Invention of Hugo to a little girl I know. Also, giving a few kiddies books to some precious little nieces/nephews. I’m also going to be giving away a lot of books from my bookshelf on my blog. We’ll see how it all goes.
Shanella, I LOVED Hugo. What a fun gift to give! And I love shopping books for my nieces and nephews too.
That Otis book was featured in the Artists Magazine a few months ago for it’s illustrations! My husband is getting the Fablehaven series (he loved the Percy Jackson books, these seemed similar) and of course I will read them too. We
‘re also getting the next Lost Heroes of Olympus books, and I hope to get Crossed, Variant, and a few other good Dystopian books. My 6yr old likes the Fairys franchise by “Daisy Meadows”, also the newest Pinkalicious book, “Silverlicious.” Merry Christmas!
Tearese! Hey! Merry Christmas to you too! So fun to hear from you. I love the illustrations in Otis. And Loren Long is the nicest guy in the world.
Wish I could go. I have a wedding to go to that day.
Ali, I hope the wedding is wonderful!!
Hmm, I want your books
I have read them a thousand times and don’t have them which is unusual for me so they are at the top of my list. I don’t know that I shall be distributing any but we shall see!
And if you are scheduling any book tours feel free to come to TN!!!!
Readerchic, that makes my day that my books are at the top of your list. And I would love to come to Tennessee! Fingers crossed my publisher sends me there next time!
We have done the book/pj thing on Christmas Eve since my kids were babies (oldest is 24 now and has her first baby!)…lovely tradition. I am glad to see others do it too! I am only 45, and look very forward to my book and pjs every December 24th
Tammy, how cool that you guys have been doing that tradition so long! I hope we can keep it up as long as you guys have.
I gave a wonderful Ballet from A to Z alphabet book to one of my nieces and Pout Pout Fish and the Deep Blue Sea to my youngest. My dad got Shit My Dad Says. Still looking for the rest!
Erica, we have the Pout Pout Fish book…my kids love it. I need to check out the other two as well! I have a niece who would go crazy over the ballet book.
Hi Ally,
It was wonderful to meet you at your St. Louis signing! My boys are getting Treasure Island and The Phantom Tollbooth – two of my favorites from childhood.
Karen, you too! Thank you SO much for taking the time to come. And would you believe I have never read The Phantom Tollbooth? Must remedy that now…
Every time I try to give a book as a gift, my boyfriend tells me, “Heidi no one loves books as much as you.” LOL Really? I don’t think so. I gave The Litigator by John Grisham, Golf’s Sacred Journey and many books on other people’s wish list. Variant is on my own wishlist though!
i was just wondering….after reading crossed, it didnt sound like the end….is there going to be a third book in the matched trilogy? if there is…are you going to start it off by there meeting?
There will be a third book! I mention that in my little author bio on the main page of the site.
We have the same tradition and our house. My oldest son got the Hugo book that is now a movie. My second son got Julie Wright’s new book the Hazardous Universe. My third son got three A-Z Mystery books by Rob Roy. My little girl got Pinkalicious and my little boy a collection of Disney stories Merry Christmas!
I just finished Crossed yesterday. It was so good!!!! The third book can’t come soon enough. I am so excited! Hope your New Year is starting out wonderful.
